About the Club
Club Campestre de Medellín operates two courses under the same membership: the 18-hole Llanogrande Course in the Rionegro valley east of the city, and a 9-hole City Course within Medellín’s metropolitan area. The two play very differently and serve different purposes for a visiting golfer.
The club is best known internationally as the home course of Camilo Villegas, the Colombian PGA Tour winner and Ryder Cup player who grew up playing these fairways. Llanogrande hosted the Colombian Open in 2016 and has been a fixture on the national championship circuit for decades.
Llanogrande Course (18 holes)
Par: 72 · Yardage: 6,404 · Rating/Slope: 74.7 / 142 · Altitude: ~2,100 m
Llanogrande is a flat parkland course set in the Rionegro valley — the gateway region between Medellín and the eastern Antioquia highlands. The layout uses lakes throughout, with water coming into play on a significant number of holes. Flat routing means walking is comfortable, and the course plays long despite the 6,404-yard scorecard thanks to the altitude/strategic-lake combination.
The altitude here (~2,100 m) is notably higher than El Rodeo’s valley-floor tees, adding close to 10% distance in the air. Morning play is often calm; wind tends to build in the afternoon as the valley heats up.
Tournament pedigree: 2016 Colombian Open host. Regular stop on the national amateur and professional circuit.
City Course (9 holes)
Holes: 9 · Location: Within Medellín’s metropolitan area
The 9-hole city course is the club’s in-city option — roughly 5 km from Parque Lleras in the heart of El Poblado. It’s designed for members who want a short round without the 45-minute drive to Llanogrande. For visiting golfers, it’s a practical half-day option or a warm-up round on an arrival day.
How They Play
Llanogrande rewards accurate iron play more than raw distance. With water in play on many holes, position off the tee matters more than hitting driver. The 2,100 m altitude adds distance consistently — recalibrate on the range before the first round.
The City Course is a shorter, tighter test focused on short irons and short-game execution.
Location & Access
Llanogrande is about 45 minutes from El Poblado, or ~30 minutes from José María Córdova International Airport (MDE) — which makes it one of the easier Medellín courses to play on either end of an international flight. The City Course is 5 minutes from El Poblado.
Both are private. Visiting play is arranged through an operator.
Practical Notes
Caddie is mandatory on both courses. Carts available at Llanogrande. The Rionegro location pairs naturally with a Guatapé and Piedra del Peñol day trip (45 min from Llanogrande) or a coffee farm visit in eastern Antioquia.
