Golf Courses in Medellín

Intro

Medellín’s golf footprint is smaller than Bogotá’s but distinct: mountain and valley courses at altitudes between 1,500 and 2,100 metres, played under “City of Eternal Spring” weather year-round — consistent 22–28°C with no real winter. Three private clubs operate four courses between them, with a natural split between Medellín proper and the Rionegro valley to the east near the international airport.

The altitude effect is moderate — expect the ball to carry 5–10% further than sea level, meaningful enough to recalibrate on your first round but not the dramatic 15% flight you’ll get in Bogotá’s Sabana.

The Courses

Club Campestre El Rodeo →

Moote & Watson, 1954 · 18 holes · Par 72 · 6,788 yds · Rating/Slope 78.6 / 146

Medellín’s historic mountainside classic. 600 m of elevation change across the routing, city views from the upper holes, technically demanding. 15 minutes from El Poblado.

Club La Macarena →

Mahannah, 1973 · 18 holes · Par 72 · 6,792 yds

Valley parkland with extensive water features and generous fairways. Near Olaya Herrera regional airport. Flatter, more open than El Rodeo — a different test.

Club Campestre de Medellín — Llanogrande + City →

Two courses under one club. Llanogrande (18 holes, par 72, 6,404 yds) sits in the Rionegro valley at 2,100 m, hosted the 2016 Colombian Open, and is Camilo Villegas’s home course. The City Course (9 holes) is 5 minutes from Parque Lleras — ideal for a half-day round.

Climate & Best Time

Medellín’s weather is the single most consistent in the country for golf. The dry seasons (December–February and July–August) bring the most stable conditions, but a well-timed morning round is practical year-round. Afternoon showers during rainy months (April–May, September–November) tend to arrive on schedule, which makes early tee times reliable.

Getting There

International flights arrive at José María Córdova (MDE) in Rionegro, 45 minutes east of the city. Direct service from Miami (3h 25m), Orlando, Houston, New York, and Madrid. Llanogrande and the broader eastern-Antioquia courses are closer to MDE than to central Medellín — practical for a first-day or last-day round.
